A Cold and Quite Night

The hourglass turns
Yet the candle still burns
And the heart quietly yearns
In the body near the fireplace
On a cold and quiet night.

The thoughts travel to yesterday
To an adventurous time that slipped away.
Are they of love? I can not say.
For some things should never be said
On a cold and quiet night.

The sound of a clock echos in the room
And the rocking-chair creeks an eerie tune
As the firelight dances like the wisp of a broom;
Then memories join in, in yesterdays den
On this cold and quiet night.
