“For Fear of the Yonder”

Just above graves there are distressing waves
Caused by forces that have no controls
And they set about motions, like witch-brewed potions,
That linger in the air and snatch-up souls.

You can’t see or hear as the forces draw near
For they are sly and crafty, as memories are.
And as you pass by the graves, those distressing waves,
They reach out and grab you with fingers like tar.

Then off you are taken to be reawakened
In their tavern of torture made of betrayal and wrongs.
Oh, how Devil-may-care when memories they share
And they tear at your soul with heart-wrenching songs.

It’s all just for sport in the subconscious high court
It’s just one of those things to keep it amused.
But for the ones caught by waves that ride above graves
It is a lesson not learned, and some choices abused.

So, hearken this day and hear what I say
Don’t be like those who feel they must wander
Among memory’s graves and their torturous waves
To be snatched-up by the past, for fear of the yonder.
