Crystal Sails

Crystal Sails on “The Golden Schooner”
Her rigging laced with silver thread.
This ghost ship sails, (All hands on deck!),
By the ghastly crew, now firmly dead.

Foggy harbors and misty coves
Are ports-of-call for tormented men.
The Captain, too, shall find some rest
From dead-man’s labor brought by sin.

“Bring the ship— hard about.
The Flying Dutchman, its cannons blast!
The Crystal Sails will soon be shattered
And the silver rigging shall not last.”

Tormented men and Captains too
Shall find no harbors at any cost
When the Dutchman battles the dead
Their ports-of-call are all but lost.

Yoo-hoo-hoo and a bottle of rum
13 men and a pirate’s chest.
Is it filled with gold and silver coins
Then buried with the rest?

The Dutchman fires, then it turns,
Then it fires a-new!
Ghostly cannons make a sound
Like the sound of fog turning to dew.

Crystal Sails on a fleeing Schooner,
Her rigging taunt as she passed the bay.
The Dutchman failed for a second time
And “The Golden Schooner” sailed away;
Just like yesterday.
