In Case He Comes Knocking

Under an Oval Moon, a gold Doubloon
Fell heavily upon the ship-lap bar.
A man with a hook instead of a hand
Wiped sweat from his brow and uttered, “ARR.”

“We’ll have rum laced with lime.
Some meat, well cooked, butter and bread.
And tell your people, (”Step lively now!"),
Or by the break of day, you’ll all be dead.”

Well, the Barkeep poured, his Misses cooked,
And his children served that scurvy crew.
But everyone else that didn’t belong
Disappeared like the fog into the blue.

At the break of dawn that crew filed out,
Along with that Captain, his hook and blade,
But they each left coins all along the bar.
Didn’t they know that the Captain had paid?

He raced to the door with coins in hand
But there was no crew or Captain in sight.
The docks were empty, and the sea was calm,
You could see for miles in the crisp daylight.

So, to this day he keeps those coins in a jar
And he’s told his grandchildren what they are for;
To give to the Captain that he calls Hook,
In case he comes knocking at Peter’s door.
