Snapshot

Like a snapshot, there it was clear and true as day.
Vivid in my minds’ eye, that smile that hasn’t changed.
It took me back; it carried me even,
reversing through the current that is time.
To before decisions led to mistakes being made,
to a hand being enclosed within mine.

It weaved its’ way through my barriers,
I thought I’d built up over all this time,
and stared at me so intently,
giving reason to to rhyme.

Past and present collided, in the battlefield of my mind.
It happened so fast I didn’t notice,
how the snapshot came to be.
But in that moment there it was;
what was there then and what I saw now almost mirror images to see.
then the battle was over, logic bearing its’ fangs to me.

A snapshot, a memory, that’s all it was ever meant to be...
