You Laugh
From poetry book, When the Elephant Speaks (Part two of the Elephant Series) by Everkesia Taylor
You hear the whispers
Of your demise,
The rumors of how you
Will meet your end,
And by whose hands,
And you laugh,
Tickled by the idea of
There being a pike,
Sharpened, cleaned and
Carved with your name on it,
Ready for your head.
And you laugh,
At the person who
Waits for you to fall,
At the person brave enough
To provoke your fall,
And at the thought of you falling.
You laugh at the hate
For you know it cannot touch you,
For you know you cannot, will not die,
Not with God’s immortal blood in you.
