Shifting Skies

"Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind."
- Nathaniel Hawthorne

Late afternoon kaleidoscope
Over yonder the western sky
The  bright sun descends from on high
As wispy cirrus clouds elope

Soon the velvet sky hugs the world
In a tight nocturnal embrace
As the dark clouds and minutes race
And the shades of night are unfurled

The hush of night begins to fade
A glimmer in the horizon
Sure promise of the rising sun
Another glorious day been made

The sun will set, but soon will rise
And paint the day with endless skies!
