Twist

“A hero is no braver than an ordinary man,
but he is braver five minutes longer.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

A tale with a twist
Totally unexpected
A surprise ending
Novel stories odd but true
Keep young hearts beating askew

Strange the minds of youth
Out of the ordinary
That’s what they pursue
To keep the grey cells buzzing
Hungry for what’s exciting

Giddiness welcome
Begone! irksome drudgery
Thrills beyond scary
What the young desire and crave
Fearless even of the grave

Sadly they grow old
Then suddenly the flame’s gone
In its place boredom
Old fogeys prefer tedium
No highs no lows just medium

We all grow afraid
Distrustful of surroundings
Leery of all things
Perchance loss of one’s courage
Brought ‘bout by vaster knowledge

The wonders of our young years
We faced the world without fears
But fond memories they’ll stay
Never ever fade away
