playing with shadow

i’m playing with shadow, left foot on the
line– existing on the boundary. i
always have a choice, a segment to set
up residence in or to overlook.
i’m playing with shadow, with the dust in
sunlight; hands just waking up after their
prolonged slumber, my unexpectedly
tepid summer stiffening my limbs.
i’m playing with shadow, excavating
previously futile landscapes in the
hope of making them bloom, knowing i can
build wonders upon shaky foundations.
i’m playing with shadow and i’m winning:
each tentative step marked as a triumph.
i live safe in the knowledge that
nobody inhabits the light like i do.
