My Dad

the finish line

With you there and me here
I’ve come to realize how much I appreciate the things you have given me.
Of yourself.
You were always yourself.
I could react to you in the way I normally do.

When I lost the race-you made me feel as if I had won.
I learned that if I tried with all my heart
but still didn’t make it to the top
I could revel knowing I worked smart

Having lost I was not defeated.

I remember the joy as I saw you waiting for me at the finish line.
