Sword Swallower

It was a remarkable feat, surely.

To arch back his neck and slowly down

A dagger. It was hardly feasible, truly.

But whisper mingled in the town

That his next act was grander by far,

A broadsword completely down the guzzle.

Being a giant, we figured it wasn’t so bizzare,

Even after he fit a spear down his muzzle.

But next came Mike’s shovel,

Then the cattle’s yoke.

And it became a sort of trouble,

Cuz you see, we were simple folk.

When our items didn’t always come back out,

applause turned fear, awe turned anger,

So we took him the back route,

Rather hoping he’d finally scamper,

And it was peaceful, till two weeks later,

When he came back lookin’ hungry,

‘announced his new act even greater,

And invited everyone back out in the country,

We were simple folk, so we came.

Down to the townsquare

By the bronze statue, the mayor’s fame,

Where he postured, ostentatious cape in flair,

Becon’ we come see his pride.

Down his jaw went the mayor all right,

But as he slept off the metal, up he was tied,

Cuz you see, our pockets were getting tight.

We were hungry too,

‘brought pitchforks and shovel-spoons thirstily,

’cooked up a devilish dish, with a tough chew,

It was a bard-worthy story, certainly,

Though these days I find myself a-cravin’

Something with metal shavings.
