Our Country

Traditional upstanding citizen,
Setting forth into the world,
9 to 5 are his hunting hours,
Time spent bringing home the kill,
really just killing time,
Measuring up to the world standards every night and morning,
The only true enemy is the clock,
Ticking and taking a second at a time,
The alarm rings sending this passive creature out into the world to begin the hunt for time once again,
The cogs keep turning,
Beasts of all kind thrown into the tumbler,
Processed into a paste and called food,
Consume or be consumed written in bold letters on every inch of space,
A faithful following has been bred,
Blinders placed on each child the instant they emerge into this world,
Shackles dipped in copper are placed in storage with the baby books,
A society based on insanity,
So insane that those with sane ideas are slaughtered by the millions,
Dreams and concepts devoured by ignorance and indifference,
Our country resembles that of an elephant graveyard,
The elephants were our heroes,
Remembering all the lessons of life but snuffed out before they could pass it along.

A reminder.
