Barry the badger the world’s best inventor

To Ryan and Mya xx

Barry the badger is an inventor you see
He doesn’t look at the world quite like you and me

He likes to ask questions: like how big is the moon?
Looking up at the sky he whispers “I may visit you soon”

He designed a car that ran on pineapple juice
But the pips broke the engine and the wheels became loose

Hammering in his shed, he saws and tinkers with tools
The neighbours all laugh saying “he’s such a fool”

But he’s undeterred as he works day and night
He’s such a perfectionist and things have to be right

His Mum shouts “come in love and have your tea”
“with your brother, your sister, your Daddy and me”
but I’m not really hungry and having too much fun
Wait there, what’s this, I think my rocket is done!

Some neighbours, a friend and his family too
Gathered around Barry’s shed to see what was new
Ta-daaa– this is simply my best work yet
I’ve combined a shopping trolley with the engine from a jet!

The rocket suddenly rumbled and blew out some smoke
“Ha ha” laughed a neighbour “this must be a joke”

So Barry straightened his goggles and gritted his teeth
Nobody realised what he was about to unleash
“Give up don’t try this cannot be done”
“You’re trying to fly before you can run”

Suddenly a whoosh, a bang then a flash
“so long my friends” shouted Barry with a little panache

Looking back at the earth it didn’t make sense
Why it was now the same size as a tiny five pence

Barry couldn’t believe he was floating in space
And the beautiful things right in front of his face

His black and white fur shimmered with the light from the stars
Reaching the moon wasn’t so hard, as his eyes turned to Mars

Looking at his watch, it was nearly half past three
It was definitely time to get back for some tea.

So if you enjoyed this story about a badger that dared
Well this story was written to simply be shared

Pass it on to someone with children who you think would like it

Thank You
