Spike
To Ryan and Mya xx
My name is Sebastian; I’m a hedgehog you see
I’m friendly and cute, and I haven’t got fleas
A living ball of needles whose friends call me Spike
But it could be much worse because I know what they’re like
It was an ordinary day as I shuffled to school
When Frederick the fox skateboarded past looking cool
Roger the badger and Philip the mole said “come on you’re late”
“Ok” I reply, “but you’ll just have to wait”
My problems began when we all played football
Giraffe was a defender because he is quite tall
Cat is a winger who has lots of skill
Whilst Dennis the dog, scores his goals at will
My best friend the mole, well he was in goal
But the problem with him was he just couldn’t see
First he let in one goal, then two, then three
When all of our team, they looked straight at me
I stood on the goal line and the team had to win
But the game was soon over before it could begin
Harry the hamster was about to kick as I closed my eyes
I thought it would hurt, but to my surprise
Looking around I thought “where is that ball?
It’s not in the goal as my teammates soon called
“Turn round; it’s stuck in your back
Which as when I soon realised I’m as sharp as a tack!
Now I must admit that this wasn’t the first
That when I play football I made the ball burst
“Oh not again”, shouted cat with a purr
When I thought to myself that life’s just not fair
As the cool looking fox doing skateboarding tricks
Shouted “he looks like a spud full of cocktail sticks”
When I got home and spoke to my Mum
I just needed to know why these prongs aren’t fun
“Why am I sharp and covered in spikes?”
“Son, you shouldn’t complain, but I know what it’s like”
“To always be banned from bouncy castles and holding balloons is a bit of a hassle”
“Relax, deep breath and go to bed”
So I thought about this and that’s when I said
“If I go to sleep now, I won’t see you soon”
“Because the next time I wake up, it will probably be June!”
“It’s because you’re a hedgehog and that’s what we do
Your Granddad was a hedgehog and his Dad was too
Its called hibernation, it will help you survive
Then when you wake up you’ll feel so alive”
“Your spikes keep you warm and protect you as well
A tiger has claws and a turtle a shell
A skunk is quite smelly and a cheetah has spots
Everyone’s different or have you forgot”
“Now get yourself settled and I’ll make you warm
Imagine in your dreams all the goals you will score
The ball will not burst and your friends will not laugh
When you hold up the trophy with the cat and giraffe”
“When you’re fast asleep, the world will pass by
Clouds will still rush, up above in the sky
But when all of the leaves suddenly fall from the trees
Let your worries go with them and float away on the breeze”
