Anticipation

For Dillon

I never thought I could crave a smile more
Like the one that sits across your face
Distinctly scraped from the corners of the universe
Made in depths of dreams and foreign kingdoms,
Its own presence, reflecting galaxies
That can’t exist in conceptual thought.
I marvel at the small things it does….
Like, the way it says my name,
Or even in the simple way it exists.
I think about you and how the
The cascades of your lips
Like the blooming perfumed body of—
A thousand honeysuckles,
Dipped in ecstasy,
Sit, lingering in anticipation,
For the day that my own solemn mouth,
Might meet yours.
