Black Silence

“Pretty little girl, with your hair tied up in ribbons.
It doesn’t have to be this way. You’re too beautiful to cry.”
And as the tears strolled down my face, I forced a smile through.
Never knowing what was to come, never knowing what I knew.

It was silent. The room was black.
Nobody could see. So I didn’t mind.
Maybe he would love me with all the love he had locked away?
Or maybe he was saving it for another lonesome day?

“Pretty little girl, with a face from up above.
Knee high socks with little bows, you’re perfect in every way.”
And as I looked right through him, I seen myself in lights.
I seen color. It wasn’t black. It was beautiful. It was bright.

I knew I must have been dreaming.
Black silence was all I had known.
But these colors. These magnificent colors.
I wish they would carry me home.
