The tatter of raindrops spilling down the window
Like the bubbling tears trickling down your face
Whimsical glows hidden behind the grief in your heart
And the gloom of lifeless motion outside
Patience makes a devil out of someone locked away
Hidden in piles of blankets escaping the cold
Waiting aimlessly for the storm to pass by and bring back sunlight
To peel away the layers of pain like the snake slithering in slick wetness outside
Sometimes it’s easier to remain here in warmth in comfort
Gazing outside at an emptiness but also a stillness
Watching puddles grow and rivers move like dreams swimming in our mind
Focusing on the flowing movement of the water
To stand by the window and feel the coldness of the glass on your fingertips
To relive the dangerous thoughts you want to erase
To go outside would be irritating and damp with rushing waters
The grayness makes for vagueness and foggy disappointment
We yearn for the sun to peak between the cloudy masses in the distance
For the rain to soak into the earth and dry the place we walk
Maybe another drink or another sweet or more entertainment will satisfy you
Fill your soul with good feelings to block out the gray vagueness
But what would it take to embrace such miserable times?
Those that we observe from a distance but don’t wish to feel
Begging the skies to warm the world again when we refuse the rain
And mother Earth grows frustrated and returns harsher raindrops
They beat on the window, cracking the fragile hearts in our bodies
They bleed and blood runs like the trickling water falling into our bedrooms
We hold our breath while the water rises and fills our home
We feel the suffocation of ignorance
Yet when we open our eyes the water is clear
It’s cooling and we can breathe in its vast body
We can swim in its lengths and discover its properties
When we close our eyes again we find ourselves in a warm pile of blankets
The rain is back to gently tattering against the window
We close our eyes and let this melody lull us until the next morning of sunshine
