shadowgraphy

Those shadows haunt you
pearl handled pins prick,
the darkest scum around your heart
that petulant spot where demons wait,
speckled light from a broken chandelier
there’s rhythm in its defused spray,
crisp edges of darkness falls
upon the cold mattress you lay.

I can’t pity or try to save you anymore
plunging myself inside your mayhem hurts too much,
I wish you were stronger so I wouldn’t have to be
but you know I’ll kill myself trying when you give short call,
your shadows aren’t content, they eat all the light
they wish not to be sedated or emancipated,
they wish to house me under the print of your thumb
marked on the back of my skull by the pressure of your taste.

Brick by brick
I could take down your walls fuelled by apathy,
and you would smile
and then build them right the way back,
the sciagraphy of your soul clouds vision
but I see it so clearly now,
you’ve created your own depth
you’ve given blackness three dimensions.
