the sweat of my stupidity

they lied to me at school
I got told the world was my oyster,
upon leaving school I realised
I was allergic to shellfish.
 
they lied to me at school
they didn’t tell of rules and rotas,
and unemployed I theorised
Inane logic of the openly selfish.
 
they lied to me at school
and said I had a choice,
Its all the illusion of babble
a choice made without consent.
 
they lied to me at school
telling me grades mattered,
those grades now feed no one
sweat of my stupidity feeds my kids.
