an old friend

I had it under control
Deep deep in my darkness
Dwelled a monster purest black
That made my life a mess
I escaped I thought
By many pried windows and doors
Years of blabber and spout
Everything I thought came out
Freeing me from the slavery of rage
So I wrongly believed
It came roaring back today
In its always stealthy way
A chance remark
A friend no less
Tossing up a funny dig
Indeed how deep indeed
Was that digging thrust
Wiping out years of trust
I screamed within
Strike three you’re out
My voice never near the slightest shout
My greatest surprise
As you may surmise
Is the joy I felt ending a friend
And finding another
Feeling no sin
In my dark rage still alive within…………..
