Our World’s on Fire

Europe and North America
Are divided by an ocean.
Yet both sides now can feel
The changes set in motion.

The earth is drier and hotter
Than we’ve ever seen before.
And the climate trends are such that
We’ll see this even more.

As the planet dries, to great extent
Our forests turn to tinder.
And fires start with just a spark
Their spread is tough to hinder.

The blazes burn and thus demand
Great efforts to contain them.
Firefighters are but human, though
And it takes some time to train them.

Glaciers are now melting fast
Higher seas will be the norm.
And this adds danger, since
They fuel they future’s storms.

The ancient signs of fire and water
Will be seen in great excess.
May our efforts to contain them
Meet with some success.
