Lost Life Faded Flowers

A roadside post with bouquet of flowers,
The message is clear, a life lost here.
That moment only known to one,
That day, that hour, when the darkness came.

Days gone by and the dust is flying,
Nothing around just the flowers left dying,
Messages placed the sadness laced,
With photographs to see as drivers race.

A ‘memory’ on an A4 sheet,
Ink now running in the rain and sleet
Teddy bear tied with plastic tape
Falling forward no longer seeing.

The week’s pass by and a piece of broken glass
by the roadside glints,
The tragic event now is just a hint,
As sunlight refracts, its colours split.

This rainbow that none can see,
A promise lying low and now closed down,
As a sweeper passes up the ground,
To brush away those faded flowers.

(2006)

Will will all of us have passed many roadside memorials, flowers tied to a lamp post, just laid on the grown close to where someone lost their life, we just drive by, thankful that it was not us..
