A New Road

The road has been steep, and the journey long.
It has taken much effort to keep me strong.
There have been times I felt I could not go on.
When I was sure that the world had gone wrong.

My life was held in a matrix of grief,
There was no way out and no relief.
Like a ship grounded on the coral reef,
About to break up and shatter my belief.

Then my skies lightened and I opened my eyes.
And I learned to see what my heart had denied
And while the great sadness within me still cried
I took new steps and found a different stride

And with this hope and a new direction in sight
I am now ready to take a new path and follow the light
But never forgetting the cause of my plight
For I know that I must carry my sorrow, and that that is right.

I know I will never be the same as I was,
For too much has been taken, too much has been lost.
But every day now will be a new step,
Towards a resolve that I must learn to accept.

Note: I am not sure if “Time is the great healer” but the passing of it allows you to think, and eventually a “change” will come to you, and at that moment you will know that you have reached a point where you actually can put some things aside. I don’t believe that you can put down the burden of grief completely, but with courage and support you can learn how to carry it.
