Telephone

Telephone sounds in the dark of night,
Raised from sleep our minds confused,
The telephone sounds to wake us,
The shock that comes forsakes us,
And we are left in fright.

The telephone sounds and its Late, Late, Late.
This is the sound that wakes us,
The news it brings is very bad,
The news explodes inside the head,
And our hearts cannot relate.

The telephones ring reverbs in us
We cannot believe the news it brings
And we are left in shock,
We pace, embrace, we are forsaken
Nervous and everywhere broken.

The telephones ring brought fright to us,
Its lightning struck the hearts in us.
Its dreadful song that none should know,
Because the news that came was fact,
There’s no escape and no way back.

(2005)

The day the telephone rang to bring to us the frightful news that my son has died....

I have since developed a strong dislike of the telephone and every time it rings I shudder
