The Road to Ecstasy

From a place of darkness overpowering,
the hell of life in a narrow cage
where the way out is written in the
chronicles of life leading me
into the future when
the pain will subside,

from the dawning of the journey,
the feel of the agony,
the knives of the physician,
my link between life and death,
his knowledge and my trust in him,
the stabbing of the flesh,
the pain on its highest mount,
the sense of hell in the gut
rolling throughout my body,
that playground of the beast,

my visions of hell before my eyes,
the hot coals burning my feet,
the passion of Christ
moving inside of me,
the day I lived and died at Mt. Calvary,
if only I could have endured the pain,
me the microcosm of Him.

The devil’s pleasure was my distress.
His sinister smile burned
a hole through my skin.

My sweat stained bed under me,
the sheets tattered by my fingers,
the book of hell written on my teeth,

and life swirling above my head,
telling me to trust in tomorrow.

The stabbing will become my memories,
my academic lesson that
penetrated my lungs,
stuck out its ugly head
and spread its venom,

the road to joy in remembrance of
the days so lived,
the appreciation of the pain and ecstasy,
the low calling for the high,
calling for its place in the future,
the good coming out of the evil,
my strength strengthened each day,
hovering over my understanding,
reaching down into my gut,
placing visions of joy before me,
assuring my faith in the healing process,
leading me to climb up to the
height of well-being,
and lifting me up to the highest mount.

Thank God I’m on my way.
Life is beautiful.
