Deep In The Night

West Coast Blues

Deep in the night I held back my fright
Saying I know what is wrong and right
I took off on broken wings for flight
Throughout the starless night sky
Through the valleys full of hills high
And orange plateaus of dizzying size
Dreaming of her and her emerald eyes
Until I disappeared from sight

Deep in the night I prayed to Self
Disregarding the philosophies put forth on my bookshelf
My legs got shattered and with no one to help
I fell down the Hollywood Hills covered in kelp
In the hot desert sun with the gun owned by the son
Who knelt before me as he let the tale unfold
Dreams of her emerald eyes
Until I disappeared from sight

Deep in the night a dog is barking somewhere
Waking my lonesome self every night unclear
Directionless, hopelessness, aimless, all so near
The edge of oblivion which calls to me
From a broken bottle labeled More Is Free
The skeleton crew and riot squad are swimming in the sea
And lady is not with me
It’s alright, I have my dreams
Dreams of her emerald eyes
Until I disappear from sight
