History Builds Character

Embarrassed to speak in waves of volume
some would embrace as talent.
Shame lingering next to pride over sexuality.
 I wonder why
society has deemed my beliefs wrong.
Sinful
My appetites
Abominations.

I am a victim of a past I did not really take part in.
I wasn’t there but I was somewhere.
Bordering on the line of reality
and something much better.
Bigger.

Words are my enemies.
I keep them close.
My only arsenal.
I just keep forgetting to point the barrel
Away from my own fucking face.

History tip toes beside me,
shadow on the wall
As if I cannot see it, recall it.

It isn’t tangible, it isn’t possible
but yet it is
right there.

Breathing next to me
Guiding me, lying to me.
Blinding me from the things you see

Things of beauty, I hear.
But you don’t see the monstrosities lingering...
Everywhere
