Poem for my Friend

What am I?
Am I really your friend
like you’ve told me over and over?

Or am I just a space-filler?
Somebody you talk to when She isn’t around,
Someone who you keep around
Until something better comes along.
A friend when it’s convenient—
Maybe when you’re lonely—
But a nobody when you’re with her again..

I was so weak, you had me
Wrapped around your finger,
Even when you left
When you blindsided me and broke my heart
I still wanted to be there,
I’d still be whatever you wanted me to
My mistake then, I suppose.

I've grown, I've changed,
I’m not somebody you can walk over
I’m not just your friend when it’s convenient
That you can talk to when you’re lonely
And ditch when she’s back around.
I’ve taken so much from you,
And still, I was there, but at some point
Enough is enough.
