Embers of Wrath

fire

Embers of Wrath

Long has it been
Since the flames ceased to burn
Long has it been
Since I have felt that warmth

No longer within heart

A time remembered
When flames of will and life
Burned hot and burned bright

A poet’s heart
Never understood
Neither by another
Nor by him, himself

Pointless words
Attempt to kindle fire
Long since absent
In presence of dark days
Darker nights.

Fire does not regret the past
It burns through
Never looking back
A lesson to be learned

To consume this life
Such as fire
Is what I wish

I lack the fire
But an ember does persist.
Is it pure?
Or does it smolder
waiting for sinful breath.

Shall I blow this ember to life?
Will it consume me as it has before?

Or with wrath
Will this ember become fire
And consume this life?
