Where Lilies Bloom

“I am made to love the pond and the meadow. As the wind is made to ripple the water.”
-Anonymous

Waterlilies bloomed in the placid pond
Multicolored koi swam in the shallow
Whilst butterflies hovered there and beyond
And in the early morning, flowers glow

Reeds and tall cattails line the water’s edge
Where dragonflies in gleaming swarms take wing
A frog upon a pad beside the sedge
Croaks boldly to the hush of early spring

On the pond’s far-side, a weeping willow
With blue-flag iris and pickerel weed
Underneath willow leaves, a lush tableau
Where blooms arise, then prosper and succeed

In willow branches, coos of mourning doves
Harmonize sweetly with the yellow birds
Their song, a melody that nature loves
Like gentle poetry without the words

It feels as if the earth and I are one
When I linger close to the water’s grace
Beneath the leaves, beneath the morning sun
All my burdens vanish without a trace

No past regrets, no weight upon my mind
The burdens shed now drift upon the stream
The pond, a quiet healer, calm and kind
Restores my faith like waking from a dream

This quiet pond, with all its gentle grace
Its blooming life and songs upon the breeze
Has left its peaceful fingerprint in place
And carried off my pain with quiet ease
