Tornado

You sighed the same
way you cried;
silent
and hollow,
and
you laughed the same
way you spoke
to me,
uninterested
blasé,
half-heartedly
like drizzle
on a bright day,
not quite
unhappy but
not quite
alive
you took the most
brittle pieces
of me
thin-skinned
and weak
and devoured them
whole
and I still listen for you
at night,
your sighs no longer
hollow
and you’re no longer
drizzle
but
a whirlwind
rapid
and vengeful
you’ve come back to take
the rest
of me.
