You sighed in your sleep.
I bet you never noticed
the sounds that you made
while you drank your
morning coffee. You
took it black just like
everything else. And I
bet you never noticed
the way your eyebrows
slouch when you are sad
or how your knees hug
your chin in the summer
when you sit on the curb
in front of your house. And
I bet you never knew that
your hair is always parted
a little to the left in the
mornings or that you listen
to Bon Iver when you are
anxious or that your eyes
turn black in the evening
light in your kitchen when
you read the new issue
of your favorite comic book.
But you never noticed how
my cheeks flush when I am
angry or that I clasp my
hands when I am nervous
or that I count the number
of times I blink in one
sentence whenever I am
talking to you or that I
wanted to tell you that I
loved you when I told you
to leave that night.
