In The Back Of Your Truck (My First Time, My First Time)

If your hands could speak
what would they have said when they danced nervously
in that hollow gap between my knees?
sometimes instead of crawling they like to break in
like intruders carelessly hoping to take what’s theirs
at late hours when melancholy kind of smells like silk
sheets. We are rambling now because the alcohol
has enveloped us and this is the part where I
am supposed to tell you about how I got to be
so unstable. Your hands are quiet,
I think they are afraid that this place is deserted.
I want to catch your breath with mine and ask you
why the earth loses color at midnight
and will I feel this way when I’m older? I tell you
that we are both flawed and so are they but
they try to hide it.
While you lose your breath between my legs,
I think about how terrifying it is to
give someone everything you have. “They could
easily trade it all for a nickel and two dimes.”
You tell me you’ve sold those dimes
for this.
