I am going to see the iron man

I am going to see the iron man

I am going to see the iron man

Someone told me a story I listened intently to every word about an Iron man in Scarborough it was a tale I had never heard, they said he sat on the seaside front looking out to sea, I really wanted to visit him and I hoped he wanted to see me. So now I am really looking forward to a time away from home it’s a little place called Scarborough and I am going to take my phone. I am going off to Scarborough do you want to come along with all the kids in the car I wish they wouldn’t sing that song.

So as we drive to Scarborough along the winding roads we arrived at Goathland it’s a place no one knows it’s on the top of a moor my car was feeling the big load. The place was a lovely a picture, it’s is lost in time so they filmed Heartbeat as a T.V sixties feature we took loads of brilliant photographs of this bygone sixties era

Back into the car its Scarborough we must go I have an appointment with an iron man I really want to go. Driving down the beautiful moor side we are heading towards the town the hills are getting steeper but we are still going down.
I asked the children will you tell me when you see the sea. Just a few minutes later one of the children shouted I can see the sea so everyone looked around and said oh yeah, all except me.

So we parked the car in Scarborough and got out to have a feed as we were all feeling hungry and the car parking there was free. We walked along the seaside front and saw a park not far away; we found a lovely place to sit on this wonderful summer’s day. We stuffed our self’s with sandwiches we had eaten all the lot now its time for a cup of tea where is my blooming pot. Next we found some toilets the kids they wanted to go, can I have an ice cream you have just had something to eat sorry the answer is no.

So we walked along the harbour looking at all the fishing boats some of them looked enormous it’s a wonder how they float. Walking along the beach front kids with crab buckets in there hands all smiling and looking for all the little crabs you would normally see in the sand. We saw a great big fairground as colourful as can be music playing in the background I needed another cup of tea, the children got an ice cream we have walked for ages one of them said where is that flipping Iron man have we lost him or is he dead?

We continued back down the seafront and into the car again then setting of to the other side of Scarborough in search of the Iron man. Driving through the busy streets and onto the other side of town, then pulled into a car park starting to get dark and the sign upon the car park said Welcome to Peasholm Park.

We looked around the park; lanterns hanging all around with reflections in the water it were looking really grand. There we bridges we could walk on and pathways leading with no end a mysterious place no one knew what was around the next bend. The buildings they were colourful and waterfalls all around it such a tranquil place with all the beautiful sounds.

So it’s back to the car it’s a drive back home I fear to dread we have not seen the iron oh flipping heck. We travelled down the road near to the sea, car parking by the café by cliffs all for free. Over the road I could see a lone figure was this the iron man I started to quiver, crossing the road I was beginning to panic if this was the iron man it would be fantastic. We arrived at the bench the man was sat on it was the iron man it was ironic.

The Iron man was a sat on a bench looking out to sea with a fag in his hand I was jumping with glee, he had a hat on his head and reading an information board it said this mans name was Fred. This statue of the man was from a bygone era a hero for men they found out much later. A walking stick in his hand he wore a raincoat he looked real grand. So it was out with the phones to take some more pictures with no more mistakes and without any glitches they all gathered around it for the last event of the day from this seaside town.

I stood with the iron man who’s name was Fred proud as punch I met him it must be said, but now it was time for us to go home so we all said our goodbyes to Fred then got into the car and off we sped. The story was true that someone said about the iron man that’s not his name because I know him as name is Fred.
