Young people should not own a gun,
til at least, the age of 21
Oh God! help us to see this fact,
Before we suffer another attack.

How many now are in despair?
Does anybody really care?
We must send out a sound alarm
against these weapons doing harm.

We must speak out at any cost
before anymore lives are lost.
To many of our young have died.
We must send out a desperate cry.

All this shedding of innocent blood.
Is there no empathy? Is there no love?
What if they were yours, or mine ?
a victim of these senseless crimes.

It’s to much now it has to cease.
We want our children to live in peace.
We want our children to survive.
To live, to love, to stay alive !!!

It's not total gun control to raise the age to purchase a gun, but it's a start we've got to do something.

I agree Ann, It's very heartbreaking, and it's just gotten to be to much, much prayer is needed. Thanks for your reply.

Heartbreaking! My worst fear is kids will be able to find guns no matter how hard we try to prevent this. The sad reality of violence in video games, absent parents, and bullies at school are the root of the issue. How to stop this all is a greater challenge because some things have long become entrained into our culture. It all seems impossible, but we can always circle around, back to education. Teaching kids and teachers to not take warning signs lightly. Education about bullying etc. Teaching parents to keep their guns locked in a safe place. A child should never handle a gun without adult supervision. Why do parents leave their guns in places their teens can grab them?

Hi Charlotte. Glad to read your poetry again. I think the trouble is that anybody at any age can buy as many guns as he can afford on the black market. It's a shame that there are so many maniacs running wild.

@Robert L. Martin: So true, Prayers are needed, and it's time to act, because things have gotten to much out of hand.

I can see no end to this human tragedy until some sensible measures are seriously taken.
Cutting down (by raising the age) the number of people accessing guns will help. We need all the help to totally eradicate this senseless killings. I agree, cry we must desperately to put an end to this despicable crime.

Like. Thank you Charlotte.

@Nelson D Reyes: Yes I agree Nelson. Anything we can do, closer screening, armed guards whatever,, and as soon as possible.

@Barb Clarke: The President spoke of raising the age to purchase to 21, Thats what inspired this poem. When I heard him say it, I said yes, because we've got to do something

@Charlotte B. Williams: In the shooting in Texas school, the under-age shooter used his father's automatic pistol and shotgun. In my book, the father should be put in jail as well. He is just as guilty as the son, and most likely is the reason for the shooter's anti-social character. Sadly, not much anyone can do in cases like this particular one. But Congress could have done a lot to prevent other shootings, but unfortunately everyone in government is so beholden to the NRA.

@Vic: This is true that the father had the guns this time. So sad. Someone has to stand up to the NRA and let them know we don't value weapons over the lives of these young people.
