You were who I texted in between classes,
The reason 2 minute replies felt slow as molasses.
You were someone I depended on for happiness,
You made me proud and it showed through my sapinness.
Monday through Friday I thought of what ima do with you,
“I failed the test but my weekend is going to be beautiful”.
Brown skin, full lips and such a warm smile
Couldn’t no one tell me we wouldn’t last a while.
You had ambition and it showed in everything you did.
It was infectious and it showed in the things that I did.
You showed me off and I returned the favor.
You’d kiss goodbye and I couldn’t wait to kiss you later.
“You found you a good one”
That’s what the homies said.
“Yeah I know”. I’d smile,
As I went to bed.
I made the decision I was ready for something new.
Undid my pants and inserted you.
Admiration, respect and deep love
I swear to God I felt all thee above.
Things change tho.
An obstacle was soon heading our way.
Distance and school was taking you away.

I could never understand why.
Now I’d text you from time to time
And your replies lacked love.

Pictures of you were now painful.
Memories reminded me of love lost.

Food don’t taste the same when I think about brownies you brought me.
Shopping ain’t as good because I remember you saying save Ya money baby.
Them other girls are pretty but they not you.
