Blazing Summer

Summers used to be pleasant
In the air the ocean’s salty scent
Lows in the low seventies
Highs in the low nineties
Clear deep blue skies
Beginning at sunrise

But now?
Up above, the scorching sun ablaze
We walk around in trance-like daze
Sweltering heat suffocating
Muggy and life-threatening
The temps in triple digits
Draining, sapping our spirits

Skies polluted, the clouds like rust
Hazy and depressing
It’s the Saharan dust
That we’re all breathing

Still, we have to persevere
For relief and comfort shall soon be here

A few more weeks autumn will come
The mercury scale will be more kind
On top of us, this oppressive dome
Will disappear, and we won’t mind

Just a few more weeks! have patience!
Falling leaves, we could smell its fragrance!
