A lovely bird cage
Antique ornate bejeweled
Glum blue jay inside

How tragic that such beauty
Can inflict tremendous pain

Gilded it may be
But in the end still a cage
Always suffocates

Alas! We are like all birds
Captive, we die of sorrow

Evocative. Reminds me of Freddie Mercury's song "I want to break Free".

Haikus and tankas are nothing more than metaphors central to all poetry.

A great tanka metaphor of being captive in wealth is my take of your poem.

Wealth is there for the taking
The more you have the more unhappy you are
Imprisoned in greed
You are gilded caged
You become anxious
Restless you imagine things alter reality step out of body
Scared you want freedom

Thank you Brod for a nice morning read. Like.

Thanks for liking Brod. I posted half of this piece in Viber last week, then I added another tanka to complete my thoughts.
