To a Brother Who Was Lost

Brother, I feel as though we’ve grown apart,
I still feel the hole you left in my being,
I knew you’d come back, I thought I was smart,
Your face in my dreams, you’re all I’m seeing,
You left without even saying good-bye,
I heard you left while the moon was still young,
I hope you don’t ever have to see me cry,
Every tear is filled with the sad song I’ve sung,
That night I lay in a pool of my tears,
Making it so no one would ever see,
You’re the one who kept me from my fears,
Now that you’re gone, what will become of me?
Your silhouette is now lined on the bright sky,
And I hope that night was your last good-bye.

(2013)

This is one of my most personal poems. I wrote this for an English project but it meant so much more. My older brother is currently in prison and I never got to say good-bye so I naturally vented my sadness the way I always have. So this my way of getting to say my good-bye.
