The Vessel Allegory

Drifting far from the seaside dock
Is an inevitability if my anchor is not dropped

The dock is where my soul needs no body
And the ocean current can’t get me

Here I stand a quarter past midnight
Watching the ocean current turn into waves that mock me

The mistakes that I have made
Have caused my cleat to come lose and my vessel to drift

Hiding in the cabin and wishing to be saved

It starts
Rushing in from every side of my boat

Scared I scream
Where does my help come from?

Crying to be saved

I jump
Because I think I know best
Because I can fight off the sea creatures
Because I can swim

Myself
Is all I am thinking about

How can I save myself?
How can I make sure I have a legacy left behind?

The vortex of popular beliefs
Is dragging me down
Deeper into the depths of the ocean
With the seaside dock
Far from me
