The Blade

A double-edged blade in my conscience,
Of battle and freedom,
Of death and loss.
I fight for my country,
When they fight for theirs,
Who really wins?
When death is everywhere.
Nobody escapes life unscathed,
We all have scars and cuts.
But what is war really?
No life.
No love.
No real winner.
When both sides lose,
A father,
A brother,
A mother,
Or a son.
This double-edged blade,
Once sharp and deadly.
Now sits on it’s own,
Forever dull and empty.
