The Trixter

I am the Raven
a boundary crosser at the gates of the city
at the gates of life
I am the outsider artist
the educated fool
the aged infant
the androgyny
the speaker of holy curses

I am in between

I do not live by the fireside
nor do I live in the mansions
                          the barracks
                          the hermitage
                          the vicarage
I am the one who sneaks in
          when no one is looking
                        and add a little mischief

I am not a guiding spirit
I am the keeper of the exit
and the crossroads at the edge of town
I am the spirit of the road at twilight
I am from every town, and none

I am the trixter

I move between nirvana and the underworld
between the living and the dead
I carry the dead to the underworld
and open the tomb to release them

I steal from the gods
the things that humans need to survive
I am the pen that signs the death warrant
the ink that spells release

I am the hinge and the unhinged
I bring things hidden from view
And bury them under the obvious
I chase the gods from the earth
You’ll find me when you are not looking for me
You will lose me when you search for me
