Unlikely beauty

In a field full of car parts and motor oil,
With broken glass, gravel, and not much soil .
Struggling to keep its roots in the ground,
Grew the prettiest little flower I’d ever found .
I’ve worked that yard, near twenty years,
And never once seen anything grow in there .
But now it seems for a week of days,
This flower has grown, and there it stays .
With its leaves stretching to catch the sun,
There are no other flowers, but just that one .
Might not sound odd, but it needs to be seen,
In a little bit of mud mixed with gasoline .
This little  bright spot, in a field of decay .
Fights its surroundings, day after day .
And I don’t know why I feel deeply this too,
But that beautiful little flower,
It reminds me of you .
