Expect and Want

To friends emerging from their sadness

Expect and Want

I dwell on living’s dos and don’ts and every quelling factor.
I want to shove them down the throats of my sweaty gorged detractors.

I won’t stop at wearing purple, I’ll be the purple and scorch the air.
Ten miles high across the sky,
You’ll see my temple body flare.

Petty rules to stifle self, Lilliputian ropes to fasten you in place.
Each on their own a simple thread.
Together, binding 'til you’re dead.

But see the life force in my face,
The deeper truth there plays.
The bindings cut and hurt me.
I stopped and simply stepped away.

And falling backwards down a lift shaft,
I heard it rushing, searing past.
The former me, broke glass, and rules, cart wheeling across forbidden grass.

I’ve been a waste for twenty years.
I’m returning to lost heights.
No longer at the mercy of the drones and gutless, spineless parasites.

Expect away, I’ll see if it sits
Alongside my wants and if it does, it fits.
If not, it’s nothing personal, I just don’t see the benefits.

Couple of obvious literary references but it fitted my mood
