Refusing to let go

The arms that comforted me
They now strangle
Holding me back
Keeping me down
The smile that brightened my day
Has now turned sinister
Forcing me to stay
Not letting me go

The person I could trust
Has now gone
In his place is just pain
I want to run escape and be free
But we are to scared to walk away
Scared to lose the man you once was

Who’s laughter was a comfort
Arms a welcomed embrace
The blissful memory’s on summer days
Just lounging around watch the clouds fly by
The ease of conversation
As words would just flowed

What there was has gone
Time has changed us
I see we are no good
Although I know you can not
Time has changed us
The words we say are filled with venom
Laughter replaced by pain

Clinging on to the past
It’s beginning to suffocate us both
Forcing us backwards
Not letting us be free
To move forward
We must move on before
Our desperation for something
That was lost long ago
Finally kills us

The harder we try
the tighter the rope is
The noose is pulling
Yet we stay
As we slowly suffocate
Pulling the rope tighter
We are each other’s executioner
Just watching as we slowly hang
Refusing to let go
