Washing Away The Pain

Turning the knob
The water abruptly spurts from the fawcett

The robe adorning her
Slips and glides
From her body to the floor

Gingerly she steps under the stream of water
The warmth and steamy wetness enveloping her
Caressing the curves of her body
Goosebumps surging through her

The steam vapour rises above her
As she lathers her hair
Foaming clean

She lifts her head
Cupping water in her hands
Splashing it refreshingly over her face
Washing away her tears

As she exfoliates her body
She sees flakes of her own skin lifting
Washing away with the flowing water
Rubbing the first layer of pain away
Until her skin is red raw and tender

She imagines herself crumbling, falling apart
Piece by piece
Flake by flake
Like the first layer of her skin
Being taken on the journey with the water

A swift descent to the drain
Where the swirling, gurgling suction
Pulls her forcibly faster into the darkness
