A Lucrative Terror

Taken aback by a moment now passed
A lucrative terror; a spell has been cast.
Unapproachable, yet undeniable... not sure how to face
...the loss of a loved one that can’t be replaced.
Never guaranteed the minute after next
Astounded by the outcome; leaving us perplexed.

Do one-by-one we go? Just dominoes down the row?
The world proceeds to host, this haunting magic show.
With all our love placed in the heart of another
Why don’t we leave the same time as our others?

Misunderstood just how life can work
When our plans happen unplanned & destiny starts to lurk
An impossible injustice steals a young life
Not granted enough time for kids & a wife.

A cruel act unexplained, is how it remains
Left with tangibles & memories
Until we all meet again.

I wrote this poem about a dear friend who was killed in a motorcycle crash this past summer, 2013. He was loved very much by all who knew him. I didn't know how to cope or how to handle the reality of it all, so naturally, I wrote out my frustrations.
