The Depression

The dark road  is representing the path to depression and the town represent depression itself
The face of memory and despair are both the same because in depression, all of the past, regardless of how good or bad they might be inevitably bring disparities to someone with depression.
The binding of the feet simply relate to the difficulty of getting out of a depression.
The light and dark paths represent the decision of overcoming depression or ending it all and the obscurity in the paths shows how it is difficult to see the future and even the positive option is scary and mysterious.
The characters thoughts show how the sub-conscience perpetuates a depression and is the driving force in which the decision that are made.
The last stanza shows how many people get stuck in a depression and make it their "home"

This is a bit of a dark poem but it's intended to show the effects of depression. In this story the character believes his self-conscience and decides to not take action. (See analysis for detailed description)
