Last Drop Of Love

Insistent, yet gentle and knowing,
Fingers of Spring
Break open the stale shell,
Long overdue to blossom.
Petals of your soul
Reach out to me
With a thirst to be quenched.
But after a grey and desolate winter
That lasted too many years
My heart,
Once alive and vibrant
As a mountain brook
Long since turned to rock
A hard and beautiful Moon Stone,
That’s all I have left to offer.
Let me carve it out.
I will squeeze, crush and crumble it
Between the palms of my hands,
To get to that last drop of Love.
(for even rocks must store inside
a tiny bit of the promise of life
at their core)
Careful not to spill
I will give you all that is left
In my final attempt
To satiate your soul,
Parched for affection.
Knowing it will not be enough.
