So Tell Me

Tell me what you know of Love.

Is she a mirthful girl of ten
In a flowery skirt,
With eyes of sky blue bright?
Her sun bleached hair
Getting your thoughts all tangled up...

Is she an old soul, perched
On the last seat of the outer row?
Shying away from your gaze,
Daydreaming out the window
As you turn around to catch
A glimpse of that sharp nosed profile,
That absent minded smile...
Every now and then

How does she steal that first kiss?
With her eyes half closed?
Not knowing to expect
That tidal wave of sensations.
A gasp escaping her lips
She melts...

Will there ever be anything like it?

Steady.
Day in and day out
She is by your side
Guarding your peace,
Her hand on your shoulder,
Her head on your chest.
Like a familiar dance...

It takes vigilance and great care
To keep her
Lest she forget why she chose you
All those years ago
And flit out the door,
That restless little bird.
In search of someone else’s arms
To hold her,
Someone else’s lips to kiss
When stars are bright
And moon is full and bold...

Love. What do you know of it?
